Message from the Club President

Dear Members, Committee, Steward, Stewardess and Staff.

I hope you’ve all managed to celebrate Christmas and that you were able to share celebrations with your families albeit at a distance. No one expected 2020 to turn out the way it has and to say it has been challenging would be the understatement of the century. The pandemic has affected every aspect of our lives and our Club Life was no exception.

Our Club and its members thrive on the ability to socialize with each other on a regular basis and not being able to do this during the majority of the time since March has been really difficult for a lot of people. We’ve been unable able to hold special functions at the club like birthdays, or remember our loved ones who we’ve lost after their funerals, this has been particularly hard during this time.

The Committee have still been able to meet virtually, using the latest technology. The committee decided unanimously to support our staff during the pandemic, something I am particularly proud of them for taking that stance. Another major decision the committee has taken is to refurbish the Lounge in anticipation of opening at some point in the New Year. This is quite a major undertaking for the club and given the amount of work involved is something we couldn’t have done whilst we were still open so we’ve managed to use the time we are closed to our advantage.

Having said all of this we are now at the end of 2020 and we are looking forward to 2021. We now have two vaccines available to us and there really is a light at the end of the tunnel. However, we still need to be vigilant and stay safe whilst the vaccine is rolled out.

I am really excited about the prospect of us going back into the club in the near future. Sharing our lockdown stories, talking about football, playing bingo and most importantly sharing a glass together.

I want to thank the staff for their enduring support throughout 2020, Kevin for his Stewardship and support of all the logistics of the lockdown and the refurbishment.

I would like to thank the Committee for their support in continuing to manage the club and in particular Rob Jones, our Secretary, for making sure every aspect of business support from the Government came our way. Most importantly, I want to thank you the members for your continued support and perseverance during this time and in the future.

It just leaves me to wish you all a Happy and prosperous New Year.

Kind Regards,

Paul Wigglesworth
